Hi. I have the exact same question. Today when I tried to leave the house the car wouldn't start and acted as though the battery was drained. So I got our battery charger and attempted to start the car. Yet it wouldn't start or barely would. So I thought maybe it needs to charge for 5 minutes or something giving I already set the battery charger switch to the 5 minute start option. Well in the process I noticed that my cables and battery post needed a bit of cleaning so I got my battery cleaning solution and a wire brush and went at it. In the process I noticed that a section of my black battery cable was kind of fried and a section of the missing skin was actually touching the + battery post. So I cleaned the post and the cables and put some rubber between the negative cable so it could no longer touch the + post. Then I tested the battery with a tester and it was fine. So I tried starting the car a gain and it started without a problem. So I went to the auto parts store, Shucks and I was told that I would have to go to Ford, because I needed a special kind of battery cable. So I went to Ford and they told me that you CAN NOT order just the negative or the positive cable, but you must order the whole set as one cable. So I did, in the process I had them check to see if this part was "recalled" and they said no. Yet, as I did my web search I found this link. http://www.genco1.com/tech_tip_details.cfm?id=90 I did go ahead and buy Haynes Repair Manual for Ford Focus 2001 and I am planning to install it myself tomorrow. Yet I will stop by the Ford dealer and how them the recall article. Steve http://www.sanddust.com/marriage Hi. I have the exact same question.
