Buy new unit from dealer and you will see what you have to do, the speedo cable and e-brake cable pass through floor in the same piece. On 88 which I've done and 95 which I own also which is starting to get noisy and I will have to do soon as it is annoying to listen too at times especially when cold but both look basically the same under the dash. One has to disconnect the emergency brake cable by taking cotter pin out of small white plastic pulley pin by gas pedal then taking brake cable out of pull lever just like brakes on a bicycle. You also need to be able to access the back of speedometer gauge to unplug the speedo cable and unscrew the unit from the side of the tranny location dependant on auto or manual trans. Getting it apart is no problem the joy comes in putting it back together. Be prepared to spend a whole afternoon in getting every thing apart and back together with out breaking some thing. The only hard part was getting the e-brake back together in the end. I don't know what the dealer charges to do, I wonder any more at that with many repairs I've gotten into and I ask myself often any more how much is a Saturday afternoon worth.
Speedometer cable replace 1989 toyota
how to change a toyota 4runner kickdown kabel
Maybe cable is going bad and will have to be replaced
You may need to replace the speedometer fuse. The speedometer cable can cause your speedometer to stop working. The speed sensor can also cause the speedometer to stop working.
Most likely because your speedometer cable is broken. If I find the guide for removing the instrument cluster, I'll post it here.
Remove the negative battery cable for 6 minutes and then replace.
1. Disconnect the cable from the back of the Speedometer. 2. Disconnect it from the Transmission it should be on the driver's side about half way back. 3. Now follow the cable up till you locate where it comes thru the firewall and pull it out. 4. Push the replacement cable thru where the old one came out. 5. Remove the old cable the connect both ends of the new cable and you are done.
No speedometer cable, it is electronically controlled from transmission.
IF THE CABLE IS DAMAGED, THE HOUSING IS DAMAGED. ITS A COMMON PROBLEM. REPLACE WITH NEW PARTS
To change the speedometer cable on a 1990 Toyota truck, disconnect the cable, feeding it through the grommet, then disconnect it from the transmission. The process can then be reversed with the new cable.
The speedometer is electronic on a 1999 Ram, and does not have a cable.
There is no speedometer cable on that vehicle. The speedometer is driven electronically.
