if you follow the larger hose coming from the bottom of your radiator to the motor, you will see the thermostat housing unit. it is bolted in the rear, towards the passenger side of the motor with two 10 mm bolts. remove the two bolts and pull the unit apart--inside is the thermostat. you will need a new thermostat gasket as well. make sure to take note of how the thermostat is set in place, with the tiny copper pin at the top

The thermostat on a1998 Honda Civic is found on the right side of the engine. It is located in the thermostat housing which can be found by following the lower radiator hose.

The thermostat is located at the end of the LOWER radiator hose. Follow the hose to the engine to locate the thermostat housing.First, drain out your coolant. Remove the hose and unbolt the housing. Make note of position of the thermostat. Replace with new and put back together in reverse order
