turn on ignition do not start your car push accelerater 3times hold pedal down on 3rd for 4 seconds and turn off ignition this should do it
sorry but that is wrong, what you do is turn the key to the on position use the display keys for the information system, push the enter key in and hold it in when you see the oil life percentage on the display, OIL LIFE RESET will show, press enter ACKNOWLEDGED will display and you are done. hope this helps, i know this works because I have had a 2006 cobalt and that is how you do it,, and i now have a cobalt ss and you do it the same way.
The first suggestion worked, the second one did not (I tried it first)
Its under one of the headlights, though I can't remember which for the life of me...
to reset your oil life turn your car to the on position dont started and tap the gas like 3 or 4 time then shut it off the start it and when you do all this you cant be on the brake or the clutch if you have one
Timing chains should last the life of the engine and are normally replaced when the engine is rebuilt.
1. Turn the ignition to RUN, with the engine off. 2. Go to oil life on dash info. 3. press gas pedal 3 times, light will reset to 100% This worked on 2006 cobalt SS. If this does not work try step 3 with key on off position.

Turn ignition to run engine off. Display OIL LIFE RESET in the Driver Information Center (DIC). Press and hold the ENTER button for at least one second. An ACKNOWLEDGED' display message will appear for three second or until the next button is pressed. This will tell you the system has been reset. Turn the key to OFF. If the "CHANGE ENGINE OIL" message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
2007-2010Turn the ignition to run (one position before starting engine).Display the OIL LIFE REMAINING on the DIC (i) button. If the vehicle does not have DIC buttons, the vehicle must be in P (Park) to access this display.Press and hold the SET/RESET (check mark) button on the DIC, or the trip odometer reset stem if the vehicle does not have DIC buttons for more than 5 seconds. The oil life will change to 100%.Turn the ignition off and then start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset
The main reason for the battery being in the trunk is to save the life of the battery. GM has improved the life of a battery to 5-plus years.
hold the info button and the arrow under neath it at the same time for a couple seconds.. go thru that menu and its sat "oil life reset" press the enter key (arrow) and it should say "aknowledged" if not you can also put the key in turn it to the on position without starting the car press the gass pedel 3 times quickly and it should reset.. to me that's harder bc you have to press it to the floor fast or it wont get it.
