I'm not sure how to reset the password, but I was just recently able to get my sons money out, after sitting on the shelf for about a year with no access.
With new batteries:
1) Remove the card, hold the reset button on the rear for about 5 seconds and release.
2) insert card
3) press the "deposit note" button
4) enter 20.00
5) "deposit note' again; should hear confirmation tone
6) press "withdrawal"
7) press 1.00
8) "withdrawal" again; should be asking for password
9) press "0000"
10) the light should come on.
I had some loose change and needed to hold upside down adn shake, but the drawer opened
