You press start and press "beam up and save" on the touch screen. It will then beam you up to your rocket and your creature will step out of the teleporter. Then, it will save the game and let you get on with your business in the rocket.
Note: If you hit start while in a battle or while talking, the "beam up and save" option will not be there.
