The Lakota, (depending on the tribe for the spelling and pronunciation), prefer not to say good bye, but rather, I'll see you soon, or "I'll see you again someday" which is spoken in an abbreviated way, "Toksha". I think the spelling is Toksha Ake.

In all actuality, there really is no word for goodbye in Lakota, for that would mean the hoop of love and connectedness would be broken. But rather, "travel well" or as I've stated, "I'll see you again". Please feel free, those of native language fluency to add or correct me on this!

Technically Sioux is a grouping of tribes by the language they spoke and is not a language.

Siouan is the language the Sioux spoke, however each tribe had a variation of Siouan.

The Sioux made up about 1/4th of the tribes among North America and they stretched from the plains all the way up and down the East coast of North America.

The Lakota language has no exact equivalent to "Have a good day", which is a modern American expression and one that is fairly meaningless.

The term anpowaštečaka means an agreeable day, one with good weather - but this is describing a day that is already happening not hoping that someone experiences good things later.

A Lakota expression used where we might say farewell or goodbye is tokša akhe, meaning "see you later" or similar.
