Chances are there is more damage than just the belt being broke. If the timing chain/belt broke while moving, depending on engine speed, some valves could have kissed the pistons and you might have internal engine damage too.
The procedure is the same if the belt had not broke first. Unless you are really mechanically adept, take it to the dealer for repair.
It wants 17 degrees above top dead center.
look at the VECI sticker on the fan shroud it will have the ignition timing and spark plug gap, and vacuum hose routing.
Go to this website http://www.aa1car.com/library/2004/us70444.htm. It tells you how to adjust the timing.
first you have to remove computer chip set timiming then plug computer chip back in also on inside of hood should have directions
Are you having problems with your timing CHAIN already ? How many miles do you have on your 3.0 L VULCAN engine ? I am concerned that it must need changing because I have 200,000 miles on it.

where to set timing for a 1988 ford ranger 2.2l
The Ford 4.6 litre V8 has ( 1 ) timing CHAIN to each cylinder head ( so there are 2 timing CHAINS ) I'm not a mechanic / technician but there is no set mileage to change the timing CHAINS as far as I know
The timing is set by timing marks on the crankshaft pulley. Using a timing light the light will sync with the engine and show if the marks line up properly. To adjust the timing the distributor is turned slightly. There is a clam and bolt under the distributor, loosen these just a bit to be able to move the distributor.
