Timing gears are set by removing the front timing cover and bringing the engine up to top dead center on the compression stroke of #1 cylinder. There are marks on the camshaft gear and the crankshaft gear which need to be lined up. This is a timing chain and gear set up. If you are asking to just adjust your timing, you need to hook up a timing light to #1 spark plug wire and have a mark on the harmonic balancer. To adjust timing, simply loosen the distributor and turn it slightly until proper timing is achieved.
Initial timing is set by lining the rotor up with the mark on the pickup plate in the distributor with the crankshaft at #1 top dead center. The timing is then fine tuned to 0 degrees with a scan tool. It can not be done with a timing light.Initial timing is set by lining the rotor up with the mark on the pickup plate in the distributor with the crankshaft at #1 top dead center. turn engine so that the notch at the rear of the camshaft gear lines up with the metal plate basically inline with the top of the cylinder head, the crankshaft pulley has a notch that must line up with the timing belt cover, remove the distributor cap and line up the rotor with the cut away on the distributor top(should be firing on cyl #1)
find yourself a book, and a timing light to do it right...search a little on the web for a MK 1 fanatics web page that may have diagrams... when your fanatical yourself, you can post all kinds of stories and specs and stuff yourself...! :)
Timing degrees? The timing is not adjustable, the timing chain is set with the dots and the plated links lined up and the computer takes it from there. When the chain is being installed the #1 piston will not be at top dead center.
bring number 1 piston up to top dead center point rotorbutton to number 1 sparkplug wire on the distributor cap can you get more preformance by the timing
Hi the timing marks are 1 on the bottom plastic cover at approx 12 clock the other on cam pulley behind line it up with the tappet cover hope this helps cheers Peter
Injector timing on b6000 is adjusted by adding or subtracting shims under the injector pump. Timing should be set with fly wheel timing mark on cyclinder #1
timing order is 1-2-4-3
Neither, on a 4 cycle engine the timing is set at the end of the compression stroke of the number 1 cylinder.
with no.1 cylinder at top dead center, line up the mark on the cam gear with the mark on the crank, and install the timing chain.
Put #1 piston up then take off the timing chain cover off and make sure that the time crank marking are lined up
