It is next to impossible to train A puppy not to use the bathroom in A perticular spot. The way I train my pups is by keeping them in A confined area, Then I let them out at A set time several times A day. As far as using the grass instead of concrete the puppy will do that on its own in time.

When it's time to go, walk it out to a designated area of the yard for that purpose. Do this every time the dog goes out until he learns that this is where you want him to do his duty. Praise him lavishly each time he gets it right. Dogs want to please. Once he gets the idea that this is where you like for him to go, he will do it.

DO NOT SMACK IT!!!! Instead just clean it up. I put it outside so they'll know where it goes. Petsmart gives potty training lessons for about $60 or more for an eight week course. My vet said to catch the puppy in the act, tell it "no" or squirt it with a squirt bottle.

Take him on a walk where he can relieve himself before you go on the pavement. They always have to relieve themselves first when you take them out. They need grass and trees to walk and sniff on. After that he wont be interested. It might be possible you don´t take him for a walk aka going to the bathroom for a dog, often or long enough. If you walk him first and then if he tries on pavement pull him away, say no and take him quickly to a grassy place he can relieve himself on.

Pooping on concrete is a good thing; it's much easier to pick up your dog's dirt and much easier to clean than trying to clean grass where kids might play. Regardless, you train your dog to poop in the right place the same way you train it do do everything else: with a system of rewards and praise when it does the right thing and a stern "NO!" when it doesn't. A choker-chain is an excellent deterrent during early training. Contrary to what do-gooders might say, they do not harm your dog if used correctly.
