To remove blue stains from stainless steel cookware, you can use Bar Keepers Friend (available at Bed Bath and Beyond) or white vinegar.

If use Bar Keepers Friend, make sure the cookware surface is wet before applying BKF onto the surface then lightly rub in circulation with a wet soft cloth where the stains present. If using powder BKF, mix the powder with water to turn it into a paste form before rubbing. Be sure to rinse the cookware through hot water to wash off all chemical residues.

If use white vinegar, fill the stainless steel cookware with one cup of vinegar and add water as needed to cover the stains. Boil the vinegar water mixture for about five minutes then allow it to cool down completely. Finally, wash stainless steel cookware with soap and hot water using a soft dish wash cloth or a non-abrasive pad.

To avoid blue stains remember not to put the stainless steel cookware over high heat.

Is a porcelain stove top easier to clean than a stainless steel stovetop?

Porcelain cookware cannot endure direct contact with heat especially with high heat. It might melt if being exposed to high heat for a long period of time. It is better used on low heat. If being dropped, porcelain cookware might chip or crack. It's not an ideal to use porcelain cookware on glass cooktop as it might melt if being exposed to high heat and will cause damage to the cooktop. Porcelain cookware comes in an assortment of colors and patterns. On the other hand, stainless steel cookware can resist to high heat. It can be exposed to heat for a long period of time. It doesn't get chipped or cracked if being dropped. It can be used on any kind of cooktop and in the oven. Stainless steel cookware only comes in metal-colored.

What is fully clad cookware?

Good modern cookware is made from layers of different metals to take advantage of the different qualities of each. Stainless steel is often the outer layer because it is tough, easy to clean and doesn't react with food. However, it doesn't conduct heat well, so it often has inner layer(s) of aluminum or copper which are good heat conducters. Most cookware has these extra layers only on the bottom of the pan where it is in contact with the heat source. A few (expensive) lines of cookware (e.g. All-Clad and some KitchenAid) have this layered construction all the way up the sides of the pan, which helps to conduct the heat up the sides as well. This is what is called Full Clad and is expensive to make and buy. If you have the money, it is the way to go, but the kind of cookware with the layers only on the bottom is very good also and much less expensive. As a side note, avoid non-stick like the plague. Stainless steel cleans easily (use medium to low heat to cook) and is much healthier for you and your family. There is a company called Maxam that makes a line of "waterless" stainless steel cookware which is quite nice. You can find it all over the Internet under different brand names (look for the item number KT17) in sets for $200-$300. Also all the regular lines of cookware make stainless sets at quite reasonable prices. Enjoy your cooking!

How long does it take for Stainless steel to decompose?

There are steel horses over Vantage, Washington (Grandfather releases the ponies) that are expected to last 50,000 years. Stainless steel might last even longer, depending upon the grade. Stainless steel encased in a thick, airtight glass case should last practically forever. Stainless steel wire dragging behind a tractor trailer on a northern deiced coastal freeway, however, might only survive a few days.

What are the difference between stainless steel and ordinary steel?

Some stainless steel is non magnetic, like the 300 series which contains a good bit of nickel which makes this series non-magnetic, but the 400 series does not have nickel and are thus magnetic, so you cannot differentiate between this series of stainless and regular carbon steel using a magnet. If the sample in question rusts easily, then it's probably regular carbon steel, though there are some high carbon steels like D2 tool steel for example, which have a high enough percentage of chromium (D2 has 11% to 13% generally) which make them 'almost' stainless and thus they don't rust as easily as a high carbon steel like O1, which does not have enough chromium (.50%) too inhibit oxidation and thus it rusts quite easily. The only other means to tell whether you have stainless steel or regular carbon steel would be by performing a spark test which could tell you whether you have stainless or regular carbon steel or sending a sample out for metallurgical analysis.

Does stainless steel flatware contain 925 silver?

No. It's just steel no silver at all. If it is silver plated it will say so, but that does not mean it contains silver. A plus A nicely made set of stainless steel flatware may not be silver, but you don't have to take it out of it's presentation box once a month to polish it.

How much does a gram of stainless steel cost?

Stainless steel is not actually a type of metal, but the name for a group of metals that share similar characteristics. Essentially any steel with a minimum of 10% chromium The correct name for stainless steel is "corrosion resistant steel" it can be marked by rusting in specific circumstances, it gets its name because it just "Stains less". Different grades of stainless steel (the grade describes exactly which metals, and in what quantities, they add into the mix when they initially make the metal) are used for specific purposes: * There is a grade of stainless used in maritime applications that resists attack by sea water. * There is a grade of stainless steel known as '440 stainless' originally developed specifically to make scalpel blades for surgeons, whilst difficult to sharpen by hand, this has an ability to hold its edge, and is often used in general knife making. * There are other grades used for general medical purposes, for making tools, bowls etc, these are great, as they can be used, cleaned, heated up to kill all bacteria, then packaged up ready for use the next time in sterile wrappings. * The chemical industry uses a lot of stainless steel, that can do things like withstand acid attacks or take superheated liquids. * The food industry also uses a lot of stainless steel in the manufacture of its products, again its ability to be cleaned down is of great use here. * The list goes on, stainless steel pans in the home, stainless steel nuts and bolts in your car etc etc So with all these different grades of stainless steel, which specific grade do you want a price on? some of the stainless steels are relatively inexpensive, yet others are extremely expensive.

How do I clean a stainless steel stock pot that has baked in chili stains Somehow, it's discolored the entire inside of a "stainless" steel pot.?

You can use SOS pads to remove the stains. It'll take some work, but they'll come out and you can scrub as hard as you need to.

What would it take to make a 390 ford motor out of stainless steel?

You are talking probably hundreds of thousands of dollars. The block alone would cost many thousands of dollars because of all of the special machining it would need. IT just isn't practical and it could not be completely made of stainless steel. Stainless steel cylinder walls would be harder than the piston and that would pose a real lubrication problem, stainless steel doesn't dissipate heat as a cast iron block does. Stainless has vastly different expansion and contraction qualities than cast iron. I wonder why anyone would want to do this.

What if you coated steel in hydrOchloric acid and put it in water?

Well hydrochloric acid readily dissolves all metals except gold and platinum....but take a longer time to react with stainless steel!
