If you are using water and not steam there should be a temperature controller mounted in the side of the boiler, that is where the start and stop point of the boiler is controlled.

Why is your oil burner off but you still have heat coming from the baseboard?

A baseboard heater runs through a process of induction and release, in a manner of speaking. That is, the burner will heat the water; the water will pump through the system; and once all is up to temperature, the burner will shut down. However, the metal of the pipes and the water itself will not cool right away; it will remain hot for a time and cool slowly. The closer the baseboard is to the furnace itself, the longer it will remain hot.

How do I turn off a baseboard heater when there is no visible thermostat?

There is a thermostat somewhere, usually on the wall or on the heater itself. Just turn the breaker off at the breaker box. Label the breaker if it is not already labeled. Once the power is turned off to the unit, you can disconnect the wires inside the heater to permanantly shut down the unit.

What is an average gas bill in a 1500 square foot house with a gas furnace and water heater?

For me, in my 1475 sf home with a gas furnace and water heater in California, my gas bill varies depending on the time of year. And I'm going to guess it would vary depending on the state you are in. We don't use the heat near as much as those in the snowy regions. In the summer it goes down to $14.00 to $16.00. In Feb it was at an all-time high at $78.00. For the past year the average was $31.64.

Turn Down The Heat On Your Water Heater?

Many homeowners do not realize that they can adjust the heat settings on their home's water heater. Although you can set your water heater to heat water until it is very hot, it is a good idea to keep your water heater's settings turned down to a lower temperature. Heating your water to a very hot temperature wastes energy. Additionally, if the water in your shower or sink is too hot, it could scald members of your household. Keep your water heater adjusted so that it does not cause burns or waste energy.
