All you need is a Periodic Table. The atomic number of an element is the number of protons in the nuclei of all of the atoms of that element. So just look for the element on the periodic table, and its atomic number is the number of protons. However, if you don't have a periodic table available, and you've been given mass number, number of neutrons, and/or the number of electrons, you can calculate the number of protons by doing the following:

mass number - no. of neutrons = no. of protons

no. of electrons in a neutral atom = no. of protons

The number of protons in an atom is the "atomic number" on the periodic table. For example, H has 1 proton, He has 2 protons, Li has 3 protons, Be has 4 protons, B has 5 protons, C has 6 protons, N has 7 protons, O has 8 protons, F has 9 protons, Ne has 10 protons, etc.

How do you find the ratio of neutrons to protons?

You find the number of neutrons, N You find the number of protons, P Then the ratio is N:P.

What can you find from the atomic number?

The number of protons in an atom.

How do you figure out protons electrons neutrons?

Find the atomic number. That tells you the number of protons and electrons (in a neutral atom). Then find the atomic weight. The number of protons plus the number of neutrons will equal the atomic weight. So if you know the wt. just subtract the number of protons and you will have the number of neutrons.

How do you find the number of nutrons in an atom?

Find out how many protons (atomic number) and what the mass number of a particular element is. Then subtract the number of protons from the rounded mass number to get the number of neutrons in a particular atom.

How can you use the periodic table to find the number protons in one atom of an element?

Atomic number is equal to number of protons.
