A cello is able to produce a sound because friction on the bow hair (created by the rosin) allows a grip on the strings. This produces a sound which travels down the bridge and is amplified by the cello's wooden body. The soundpost within the hollow of the instrument connects the two planes of wood and thus help conduct sound through the entire cello. The 4 strings are of different thickness, and when stopped at different lengths, produce sounds of different pitches. These pitches are maintained by a constant grip from the bow, and a firm stopping of the string (esp. by the fingers). As compared to a violin, a cello is able to have its fuller and stronger sound due to the larger body. The end pin connecting the cello to the ground also aids in conducting the sound within the room/hall.

It's strings vibrate and it somehow makes a sound. Using the hollow inside the strings vibrations echo making sound waves sent around the room. They then bounce into our ear and our brain recognises.

Very Mellow. It is one of or maybe the only instrument that has the voice capabilities of a human. It can be played as a violin as well as a bass on higher octaves. It produces a truly warm and pleasing sound that is more captivating to listen to at first then the obnoxious squeaky sound of of its sister violin.

The cello is played with a bow, or by plucking the strings. It is not placed under your chin like a violin it is placed with the spike touching the floor and if you are right handed then the neck is on your left shoulder. Your knees go where it curves in in the middle.

Surprisingly, not with cellotape. The various parts are glued together, and the whole body is varnished to help it hold. The sound post is merely wedged between the front and back.
