I have son 37 yrs old that had cerebrel stroke in Dec. he spent up to march the 3rd in UAB hospital, and it came time to release him to a rehab facilatey, and his common law wife had him put in a rundown nursing home that use to be a motel, In St. Clair Co. Alabama. They only have one bath and it is in what they call the honey moon suit. He is not getting the rehab he needs, they put him in a chair in the day to look out the window, and put his tennis shoes on trying to keep his feet and leg from drawing they are not working with him to get him rehabilatated, I ask one of the nurses aids who is doing his rehab and she told me them right now, I don't feel that they are qualified in doing the rehab he needs, their rating is like a 3 on the score line for the state, i am trying to get him moved to a center her in Talladega Alabama, that even has the equipment to give him a full bath that he hasn't had sense Dec. He hasn't even had a drop of water on his tongue sense he has had his stroke, his ex wife (common Law Wife) goes to her sister that knows absalutely nothing about laws or anything like that. The Nursing facilatey that i have been trying to get him into has a 5 star rating, the doctor comes by 1x a week the LPN comes in everyday, where he is now they come by 1x a week period if they are available. I don't even know who to get with to get some one to go in a check the place out. They are understaffed, unclean, My adopted daughter found a pill in the doorway of one of the rooms, I still have the pill so i can show someone if i can get some one to check them out. i have tried to talk to his common law wife several times to get him moved close to home to the one that is 5 star rehab, and nursing home. He can't even have his own say on anything. He stays mad and depressed all the time. is there any way you can help me get custody of my son, from his common law wife.

Thank you;

Wanda

A 21 year old is legally an adult, while you can adopt an adult child you cannot be awarded "custody" of them unless they are mentally or physically disabled to the point where they cannot care for themselves.

If you can get proof or get the family that the other partner is abusing than you can file for custody. All you need to do is maybe get a taping or recording of the abuse happening. Or get social services to investigate.
