it works by mesureing the carbon menoxide in ur house or apartment or mobile home. carbon monixide is a very dangoures gas that can kill us so they have those so they warn us when there is too much for us to handle

∙ 11y agoThis type of smoke detector relies on having a voltage impressed across an opening to which room air and smoke has access. This opening is bombarded with alpha particles, and if smoke particles are present, these will allow an ionized trail to develop, and the impressed voltage will cause a current to flow. This signal is inferred to indicate the presence of smoke.
The source of the alpha particles is a tiny quantity of 241Americium, which is present in the form of its insoluble oxide, and is enclosed further in a capsule.
