For a very basic explanation, a manometer measures the pressure differential between a closed pressure applied at one end and an open pressure at the other.

For example. If you have a typical u-bend manometer and you apply an air pressure at one end, the liquid will raise correspondingly, as the pressure on the closed side increases more and more above the ambient air pressure.

The amount it rises depends on the density of the liquid used and the diameter of the tubing.

So basically a manometer uses the height of a liquid to translate the amount above ambient air pressure, which is considered zero, of your pressure source.

it measures the difference in preasure

one arm of the tube is opened and the other is attched with a vessel like structure

which help to measure the preasure the difference in liquid level represents ' the difference in preasure

What are the advantages and disadvantages for inclined tube manometer?

Inclined-tube manometer why are they used to measure low pressure?

the fluid level in manometer will rise through an inclined line rather than vertical line. So when ever there is slight variation in pressure the manometer (inclined) will be able read it. The pressure drop is given by P=h*density*g*sin(angle).

Why U-tube is inverted in inverted differential manometer?

when the fluid is flowing on the pipe which is lying on the ground then we cannot install ordinary manometer to measure the pressure, that's why we use inverted u tube manometer in such case.
