In states where same-sex marriage is permitted, the minimum age for marriage is the same whether the couple is same-sex or opposite-sex. In general, persons 18 years of age and older can marry without special permission. Persons under 18 years of age can marry if they are able to obtain parental or, in some cases, judicial permission.

In Québec, Canada, the minimum age for marriage is 16 without parental consent. Same-sex marriage is legal there.
