Why do cats eyes shine so brightly in the dark when they are luminated by a flashlight?

This isn't the most scientific answer in the world, but that's just the way I am.
Cat's eyes glow because there is something in the eyes that makes them reflect light, even just a tiny bit. This also means that this only works when there is a smidge of light, and that nothing will happen if there is complete darkness.

This helps animals (cats in this case) see better in low light by working like a mirror on the retina to reflect the light back through the eyes, giving them a second chance to absorb the light

∙ 12y agoBecause the back of their eyes might be different colors than yellow. The light bounces off of the back of their eyes and reflects off and makes a light. The back of our eyes are black. That is why our eyes don't shine in the night.

It acts like a mirror, reflecting light back onto the light sensor cells in the retina. This makes the cats' eyes glow in the dark when they are caught in a beam of light.
