some abusers, don't really feel anything or even care about the other person. it does nothing to their life, or their relationships.

but...

other abusers, may feel guilty, or excited, or disapppointed with themselves. which could affect their lives, and the people around them. if they feel guilty, they may hurt themselves or other people because of frustration. if they are excited they may do it again for pleasure. and if dissappointed they may start to grow relationships with people before they attack so the person is more likely to forgive them.

so..

abuse could cause internal conflict in the abuser. (not saying abuse is right.)

the abuser goes to prison depending on how long and sever the abuse is

The worst Punishment for a child abuser is guilt. I know first hand what is is like. Do I consider myself a child abuser, NO. My son Jason had an episode a few months back and I struck him in the face. A downstairs neighbor had called the police about two minutes before I did this because of the loud tone that I had and was moving things around the apartment. She said I was throwing the kids (Jason and his little brother Johnny) into was and beating them. (She can see through walls). Anyways, the older one had tried to leave the house and after time and time of putting him in timeout and butt taps, i hit his face a couple times. 8( I was not doing anything but discipline I told myself. The police showed up and asked to see my children. I assured them that everything was fine and proceeded to the room where Jason had fallen asleep. They confirmed that everything was OK and that there would be no further issues.

About 20 minutes later, My girlfriend, the mom, came home with my oldest son. She was quickly informed of the situation by the frantic neighbor and then came upstairs. I was questioned and told her that nothing had happened. She looked at the boys and nothing was out of place. She continued questioning and I lied still, fearing what might happen if she found out. About an hour later Jason woke up and that's when it showed up. there was a mark on his neck, his cheek was red, and he had a bruise on his ear. I couldn't stop apologizing to everyone for what I had done. I felt so awful about the state that I allowed myself to get into, that I turned myself into the police for a psychological evaluation. I was later arrested and charged with assault and battery and reckless endangerment of a minor, served 28 days in jail, and am no longer allowed to reside with my three sons. If DSS acknowledges that I have been to the house, they will take the boys away.

I am a loving father who grew up without one. I do not hate my children, I want them to be orderly with respect and have a conscience that things are gone a certain way.

I never meant to hurt him, but I did. And most of all , I hurt myself.

Explain why both adults and children keep child abuse a secret?

There are many different reasons that children and adults remain silent about the "secret" of abuse, including: - scared that the abuser will hurt or fatally injure them - fear that the abuser will hurt or fatally injure a love one - embarrassment - the abuser convinced the victim that "no one will believe you" - the abuser convinced the victim that "you wanted it as much as I did" - the abuser uses bribes or any form of "currency" that the child needs or wants including attention, money, gifts, or special treats - the victim starts to believe he/she did "want it" simply because he/she wanted the items the abuser promised - just want to pretend it never happened - don't know it's abuse - the lack of words to define or describe what happed - the abuse occurred at night so that the incidents become clouded "as if a dream" - the victim dissociates so there is a wall between "now" and what occurred "before now", even during the abuse - the victim suffers from Stockholm's syndrom (start to have feeling for the abuser and will sympathised with the abuser) Parents who do nothing after being told by a child about abuse often do not tell anyone because: - the parent is the abuser in many cases OR.... - the parent/s do not understand the danger of abuse, even if they have another child in the home - the abuser is the mother's boyfriend so the mother chooses her boyfriend over the child - the abuser is the mother's boyfriend and the mother cannot get away from him - the abuser is the father who also commits domestic violence--the mother feels she cannot safely leave and take her children with her - the abuser is the spouse or boyfriend who has threatened the mother as well as the kids and the victim - the parent fears involvement of child welfare - the parent was also an abused child so he or she thinks "I got through it, so can you" - the parent feels powerless - the parent is in denial - the parent has a mental illness and is ineffective at protecting a child - the abuser is the parent's workplace boss and the parent needs the job so therefore chooses not to tell the authorities OR.... Both parents or the mother and a live-in boyfriend commit the abuse together against the child.
