Population growth is the net result of 4 factors: Birth Rate, life expectancy, Immigration and emigration The birth rate in most western countries has been declining, but there is a second echo of the baby boom that is showing up. Some cultures have higher birth rates, including the aboriginal population. Life expectancy has been steadily increasing in the west, but again it varies according to socioeconomic status. Immigration is driven by a number of factors including Canadian and international politics, wars, etc as well as Canadian immigration policy. Emigration is most affected by economic factors such as job availability outside vs inside Canada and a desire to live in more temperate climates. All of these factors have an impact on net population growth and many of them also affect the ethnic diversity of the population

Immigration can be a positive solution or a nightmare to a country's population.

If the immigrant has no history of negative qualities, then they could make a positive contribution to Canada's development. If the immigrant comes to Canada legally, contributes the taxes required, respects the laws and authority, and is a good citizen, - then their effect will be positive and very good for Canada.

If the immigrant is illegally living here, they will not pay taxes, not be accountable to anyone, will not likely respect citizens nor community property, and will be a negative impact on the society.

Canada's population is not decreasing. The fact is that it has increased by over 1.5 million people between 2010 and 2014 (the last year that statistics were available from Statistics Canada). Every province and territory in Canada has seen an increase in population during that same period. The most aggressive population growth has been in Alberta, while Nova Scotia saw the least.
Alberta's growth can be directly associated with the growth of the oil industry during the last decade. The industry attracts and recruits both temporary foreign workers and permanent residents alike. With the recent decrease in oil production and prices worldwide, it is likely that the pace of population growth in Alberta will decrease; while government investments in the manufacturing economy in Ontario may once again land Canada's most populous province at the top of the growth list.
