How does reflective fabric work?
The production of reflective fabric uses the principle of retro reflection. It helps the eye perceive light in low-light conditions. In more scientific terms, retro reflection occurs when light rays are returned in the direction from which they came. A large amount of reflected light is returned directly to the original light source, such as a car's headlights. Since very little light is scattered when the light is returned, retro reflective materials appear brightest to an observer located near the original light source. Both are just as good as each other if you get the more exspensive brands, quite often cheap markers are not very good, but as long as you keep the fabric tight it should be f…ine. personally I prefer fabric paint but either will do. Their down side is the smaller number of colours available.. With fabric paints you can cover a larger area with less work, They come in a wide selection of colours and being able to mix colours gives you much more flexibility.

When sewing with fabrics that have a nap, make sure that the fabric is always placed in the same direction, otherwise it will look as though you are using two different fabric…s. Though when working with a quilt, running the nap in different directions gives it a unique appearance.
