From the Satellite TV Providers, they transmit satellite tv signals by using a device that converts a digital signal to analog signal. This box sends it to the satellite dish of the provider to the satellite.

When a subscriber switch channel, the satellite dish installed to his receiver then requests a signal from the satellite.

The satellite receives the signal from the subscribers satellite dish. The satellite sends the analog signal which came from the provider the requesting satellite dish.

The receiver converts this analog signal to digital signal so that the signal can be viewed to the television which is connected from the receiver.

You need a satellite tv kit. This consists of the satellite dish, RF coaxial cable, a satellite tv receiver, and a decoder.

However, I suggest to contact a professional satellite tv installer.

The LNB attached to the arm on the dish along with the receiver decodes the signal beamed down from the satellite in outer space. The smart card inside the receiver holds the information for the programming package you subscribe to allowing you to view your program.

A television camera converts different bands of visible light into electrical signals (a controlled flow of electricity) and the tv receiver decodes these signals to feed the display device--the tv set. Electrical signals can be converted into electromagnetic radiation or RF ("radio frequency" but short hand for this kind of radiation). Thus, the electrical signals from the tv camera (or tv recording device) can be transmitted by RF. RF is transmitted to a satellite in orbit which carries the television information (the television programs) upward from a ground station transmitter to the receiver in the satellite. Then, the satellite re-transmitts (relays) via RF the electrical signal back to earth receivers. The earth receivers convert the RF into electrical signals that the television can display, and the receiving person sees television.

The reason for using satellites to distribute television to home users is wide bandwidth and less expense. Wires run to homes have much less bandwidth and can break and cost money to install and repair. Fiber optic cables run to homes have great bandwidth but can break, cost big money, and need relaying amplifiers every so miles of cable run. These two method are called "cable television."

Sellers of satellite system move the cost of receiving and decoding the tv on to the end user at home by selling the antennas and set-top converter boxes. The RF airwaves are nearly free and the RF generation quite cheap compared to the other systems.

"Bandwidth" refers to the amount of information any one "pipe" can carry, be it be satellite RF, earth broadcasting (WABC TV received by a home antenna), or cable tv. Television is a very complex signal with many components to carry all the black/white, color, and sound information, but is made more compact by converting it into digital information; nevertheless, television requires lots of bandwidth and the greater the bandwidth the more HD the picture and HiFi the sound. Satellites, due to their RF frequency allocation can carry lots of bandwidth as can fiber optic, but not wires like telephone wires. For example, you can put thousands of Citizen Band radio conversations into the RF frequency band of one earth broadcasting station. Satellite offers lots of bandwidth.
