If they are bad enough to disturb your living a normal life, go to a psychiatrist that treats panic disorders. There is a difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist. Be sure to choose the first, as you may need medication. A "Get Well" book is not enough. Give your problems to the Lord, too. What if their parent can't afford it? huh? That's all wrong!!! Anxiety and panic attacks are primarily due to an imbalance of dopamine and serotonin neurotransmitters in the brain. Cognitive or psychotherapy is typically unnecessary and ineffective with these disorders. Best-evidence protocols call for starting medications like Zoloft or Effexor, while using benzodiazepines (Ativan, Xanax) as a "bridge" until these former meds take effect. Reiteration: you cannot "talk yourself down" from such an attack. These medications will dramatically improve you quality of life.

People can get rid of panic attacks as there are effective treatment. Pschotherapy and medications are proved efective for panic attack. The main goal of this is to remove all the symptoms of this medical condition. Physicians commonly prescribe the patients to take a group of antidepressants referred to as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. These mainly include drugs such as paroxetine, fluoxetine and citalopram. apart from this, there are also other safe treatment options such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants as well as serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors.

Happy to help you.

Feelings of anxiety are so common in western society that people accept these sensations as natural. Symptoms of anxiety can include sleep difficulties, irritability, nervousness, fatigue, and restlessness. The feelings of anxiety can be accompanied by panic attacks. A panic attack is diagnostically defined in the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV as a short episode of extreme fright or alarm. At least four symptoms from a list of 13 must occur within this brief period. Included among these symptoms are heart palpitations, fear of choking, sweating, chills, trembling, abdominal distress, feelings of unreality, referred to as derealization, and feelings of being detached from oneself, referred to as depersonalization. The intensity of an attack peaks within a 10-minute period, and there is no obvious cause for the fear. Anxiety Disorders Panic attacks are common to anxiety disorders. There are several diagnoses within the anxiety-disorder classification including generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder and social anxiety disorder. Those who suffer with panic attacks may also have agoraphobia. Agoraphobia is a fear of public places, crowds, leaving home or going out alone. The person will experience an attack in these situations and will, therefore, avoid them. Treatment A combination of psychotherapy and medication can be very effective in treating panic attacks and anxiety disorders. Medications that help reduce the frequency of panic attacks include selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, SSRIs, serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, SNRIs, and benzodiazepines. The first two drug classifications are antidepressants while benzodiazepines are sedatives. Drugs from the SSRI class are normally first prescribed to treat those with panic attacks. Name brands include Prozac, Paxil, Pexeva and Zoloft. Effexor XR is the commonly prescribed drug from the SNRI class. Cognitive-behavior therapy is one widely accepted psychotherapeutic intervention for anxiety and panic disorders. The theory behind this approach is that one's thoughts lead to certain behaviors and feelings. Therefore, the goal of therapy is to first identify these underlying thoughts. Once the cognitions are identified, the therapist can help the client to change or interrupt adverse thought patterns. Another frequently used therapeutic approach is systematic desensitization. Rather than flooding the individual with the feared stimuli, the therapist slowly helps the client to relax while in the presence of feared situations. This approach may first commence by having the person think of the feared situation while concurrently applying specific relaxation techniques. The idea is that states of panic and relaxation are mutually exclusive. Eventually, the therapist will expose the client to the actual situations that are perceived as threatening. Irrespective of whether the individual fears social situations or public places, the client will apply the relaxation techniques and eventually become desensitized to the feared stimuli.
