The Bengal Tiger is very large and powerful and rarely needs to defend itself against anything other than humans, which have guns making self defence futile on the Tigers part. (In other situations the Tigers powerful jaws and sharp teeth make it a force to be reckoned with, not to mention it razor sharp claws attached to paws powerful enough to kill a man with a swift blow to the head.) If all of this somehow failed to defend the Tiger then it could try to evade harm by using its speed to run or agility to climb a tree to get out of harms way.
When a tiger is a young cub, it must hide with its mother and fellow cubs in a safe and secure place like a tall grass or den to be protected from predators like leopards, dholes, and bears.
When the cub becomes an adult, it must learn to fight for its place in its habitat and territory. If an intruder tiger tries to steal another tiger's territory, the two will fight each other. The loser must leave and find a new territory, but the winner stays in the territory it fought for.
If there is an occasion in which the tiger must contend with an enemy like a leopard, dhole, or bear, it will do whatever it can to fight its intruder off. Often this occurs when an enemy tries to steal a tiger's cubs or when a tiger tries to steal an enemy's young.
Usually, a tiger would have no problem when encountering a leopard because it weighs almost three times the size of the leopard. However, since dholes live in packs, they can circle a tiger and try to attack it. When this occurs, the tiger may be able to escape with a few members of the dhole pack dead. Bears, however, are usually strong enough to put a good battle against a tiger whenever a conflict occurs between the two animals. If it is an all out fight, either tiger or bear could win. Most of time though, the fight ends with the retreat of one of the animals.
Although tigers encounter many enemies, they are among the top of the food chain in their habitat.
