How does the riddex electronic pest repeller work?
The Riddex pest repeller produces high-frequency sound waves that are harmless to humans and pets (except rodents), but which are heard by insects and rodents and are supposed to drive them away. This may sound good in theory, but it doesn't work in practice. At best, electronic pest repellers may work for a few hours or days, but they apparently have no long-term effect on pests. Also, many people claim that they can hear a whining and/or buzzing noise made by the repellers. After numerous complaints, the company that produces Riddex agreed with the FTC to not make certain claims as to their product's effectiveness. You can read the agreement on the FTC site: http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2003/07/global.shtm

My experience with electronic pest repellents is that they do work. I have used them to keep possums and rabbits out of vegetable patches, birds and also kangaroos out of orch…ards. They emit a sonic type frequency that the target animal doesn't like, it doesn't cause them any harm or to humans either. The noise is undetectable to humans. Be Happy, Barry
Is the Riddex Electronic Pest Repeller effective at removing and preventing mice and rats from a home?
I am hoping so, but we have had it for a week and still have not seen a benefit. I'll update as time goes on.. http://www.ripoffreport.com/searchresults.asp?q1=ALL&q4=&q6=&q3…=&q2=&q7=&searchtype=0&submit2=Search%21&q5=riddex&Search=Search. Of course its supposed to take several weeks.. Ive heard 1-2 months overall for some.. Despite reports of it being a scam, its been working for us.. A device that covers an effective area of 350 sq. ft. would ideally cover a circle of less than 10 ft. radius with the device in the center of the circle. So the device has an effective range of 5 feet. Sound pressure varies inversely with the square of the distance, so if you put the unit in the corner of a 10 ft. square room you would only get one fourth the sound pressure over the rest of the room, and only one eighth the sound pressure at 20 feet. Furthermore when cone speakers are used the sound is 'beamed' directly in front of the unit, likely covering a 5 ft. x 5 ft. x 5 ft. triangle directly in front of the unit (with the apex at the speaker cone). Knowing this you might be able to drive mice and insects away from that 'sweet spot'.. Sound frequencies are absorbed by soft surfaces and reflected by hard surfaces (like your concrete basement), so sonic pest repellers placed every five feet in your basement or crawl space might be annoying enough to drive mice or insects away. After a few weeks they might all leave the basement and build their nests in your house.
So it would seem, since the product is supposed to chase away whatever lives in the woodwork of houses.
Yes, Riddex electronic pest repeller repulses squirrels ( Sciuridae family). But it requires a certain range of effectiveness, beyond which it has no impact and within which …other controls -- such as removing food sources and sealing cracks -- need to be implemented.
The Riddex electronic pest repeller is safe to use in and aroundhomes with pets. It is not dangerous for pets or children.
No. It can only make the animal suffer. This devise gives off an electrical pulse that these small animals may be able to feel. Read the label on this product before using aro…und the guinea pig.
They adapt to it and realize the noise is not a threat. they even tried alternating frequencies but once they realize all the frequencies are only an annoyance they are ineffe…ctive too. it just takes longer.
the red light signals that the pulse is going out through the electrical system.

Hardware stores, Bed, Bath and Beyond carry them. They are also easy to find online, but before you buy you might want to reconsider. there has been a class action, a ton of n…egative reviews and even talk of an FTC action to completely stop their sale. They just don't work.
