Well, as each new generation of people grow up they will face many of the problems that their parents and grand parents did and if they did not study what these people had tried to do to solve these problems they may end up trying a solution that had already been tried that did not work.
I am sure you can see that that would not be very smart, so people study the past to learn how to do things better in the future.
It helps us analyse how human brains worked, what choices they make.ect.ect
historians study how humans behaved then and compare it to now to see if we are going the same way as history has. Its sorta like looking into the future and if they think there might be a repeat of history.(bad events) they'll warn us or whatever. Like WW1 & WW2.
