Actually variation helps, because it increases diversity within the population increasing chances of survival of the population in the cases of environmental disaster, disease, etc. Some individual organisms in the population die and some live, more diversity the more likely some will live through whatever may happen.
depends where you put it
genetic variation
An antigenic variation is the mechanism by which an infectious organism changes its surface proteins in favour of circumventing a host immune response.
The simplest answer is variation or death. If the mutation is abberant enough it renders the organism nonviable...a continum of lesser effects that potentially result in deformity, disorder, pigment variation, behavioral change all the way to some fabulous modification that creates a great adaptation that makes an organism more successful.
Well, if an organism reproduces asexually then it only has the genetic information from itself to use in creating a new organism. With sexual reproduction, the organism has the genetic information from more than one organism to use, which produces more varied organisms, and it becomes more varied the more different genetic information is used over generations.

Variation is important among organisms for us to indicate which is which :))

recombination of alleles
where on organism benefit and the other it hurt by it
They will show variation, that is they will not be all exactly alike.
