A dog is pregnant for about 60-63 days. In the beginning, a dog can be in heat for weeks to about a month! In heat, her nips are usually very swollen even bulging.
The bulging doesn't have to last throughout the whole pregnancy, but usually a few DAYS before a b***h gives whelps (gives birth) milk can excrete from her nips.
However, a dog can have what is called a false pregnancy when she is still showing all the signs but it could be due to her "heat". Heat signs and pregnancy signs are very similar.
yES THIS CAN HAPPEN. THIS HAD HAPPEN TO MY PITBULL AND WE TOOK HER TO DO VET, THEY TOLD US IT WAS OKAY, JUST NOT TO HAVE THE MILK COME OUT AT ALL
If you are absolutely positive she is not pregnant then she could be going through what is called a "phantom pregnancy". Google it to find more out about it. :)
My min pin, who has never been pregnant or introduced to a male; began producing milk for my orphaned kittens. She is now nursing them and taking care of them like a mother.
She is pregnant and not far from giving birth
no the body knows when it is pregnant and it fills with milk
no.
Your dog has her period.
If she is pregnant it is because she is going into labor. If she has had babies, it is because she is getting milk out of them. If she is not, then she may have something wrong with her mammary glands and need to get checked out.
Your dog could be pregnant, or they could be going through a 'false pregnancy', which means they're showing all the signs of being pregnant, minus the puppies. The only way to be sure is to take your dog to the vet.
There are several reasons a female dog's nipples can become enlarged:in heat / pregnancyfalse pregnancysurrogate/induced lactationlow to the ground / physical irritationtumors / cancerSeek the assistance of a veterinarian to make sure.
Pregnant?
yes it is one of a few signs, some signs are nipples grow larger, dog becomes lazy, follows you around, keeps licking it rear end, behaviour change. Also, if you have received your dog from somewhere else at an older age, this may just mean that she has already had puppies before.
