The right wing has portrayed it as socialistic and say that it will cause the quality of care to decline. The truth is actually the opposite the health care is not single payer so in no way is it "socialist" and it will improve quality by encouraging competition so insurance companies will try to offer as much coverage for as low a price as possible.

The middle and right would like to see reform, not a take over of the system. Under the Obama plan there would need to be far more rationing then we see today. Obama himself said it was necessary to make tough choices. The next day annual mammograms for seniors were said to be un needed nay longer.

We have two different crisis in America at this moment. We are broke. The health care system has been too restricted. Putting the health care system into the hands of politicians will do nothing good and cause long term suffering.

What both sides do agree on is that changes need to be made. Allowing private insurance companies to compete across state lines would help. Adding a Medicare like system for the population only destroys more hospitals that can not live on thr horrible payouts of Medicare.

Tort reform. MEANINGFUL tort reform would be number one. Half of a doctors pay now goes to insurance. That is criminal. Lawyers are not all evil. The 95% make the 5% look bad. We need to get the lawyers that advertise on television to look elsewhere for their money. You can not milk a system dry. The John Edwards of this world get rich on the backs of those of us that work and pay for our health care.

Are Republicans for the healthcare reform bill?

No, Republicans have been vocally opposed to the bill, and even though it passed and was upheld by the Supreme Court, they still want to repeal it. This is surprising, given that many of the ideas it contains were originally championed by Republicans, and the law itself is modeled after a law Mitt Romney created when he was governor of Massachusetts.

What vote did the Republicans request to attempt to kill the healthcare reform bill at the last minute?

Opponents (some of whom were not Republicans), supported a motion to recommit. A motion to recommit returns a bill to its reporting committee. A motion to commit without instructions, if itself passed, effectively reverses passage of the bill.

Are Democrats for health care reform?

Yes. I think, generally, Democrats, as a party, would like reform, but I am sure there are individuals who may not. Just as a number of Republicans I know would like reform as well, but the Republicans, as a party, does not seem to be in it as much.

What is healthcare reform?

The concept of healthcare reform is the idea of making access to affordable healthcare universal. From President Obama's speech: It will provide more security and stability to those who have health insurance. It will provide insurance to those who don't. And it will lower the cost of health care for our families, our businesses, and our government.
