How have teenagers contributed to the development of technology?

Teenagers contribute dramatically to the development of technology as they are the fundamental target group for most of today's technology enhancements. Teenagers are often described as having the most free cash to spend on various items that adults often don't due to mortgages, children etc.

You only have to look at the transition from sms messages to picture messaging, the rise of instagram and other social media sharing sites to realise that technology savvy teenagers drive the technology market.

Be careful, please do not forget that technology is nothing new. In fact there has been no time in the history of homo sapiens (modern man) that we have been without technology, as the earliest technologies were developed by our pre-human ancestors and we "inherited" them.

There is no way to tell how much or how little teenagers contributed to technology though over the hundreds of thousands of years from early pre-human times until well after human written history began. These histories usually were written by adult men and the children and teens were traditionally only the concern of the women, making them largely invisible in written history until the last couple centuries.
