It all depends on what saddle it is and how strong you are....;) To me, I have to admit its not that heavy....you decide;)

I understand what you are saying, but it really depends on the size of the saddle. The bigger inched saddles are heavier than the smaller inched saddles. Some saddles are from 11' inches all the way to 36' inches. The bigger are mostly always heavier! Your welcome!

Which is more popular- western or English riding?

The main difference is the saddle. English saddle is generally a lot lighter and has no horn. Western saddle is heavier and does have a horn. You can also walk, trot, canter, and gallop on both. Another main difference is the way you sit on it. English you have to use pressure everywhere, so it's not as comfortable for the horse. Western saddles are much more deep and much more comfortable. And Western riding is a LOT faster...TRUST ME. :D Hope this helps!

What is a cutting saddle?

A cutting saddle is simply a light-weight saddle, useful for quick riding movements. When cowboys would "work the brush", the would need a "cutting horse", one that was able to make quick, sharp turns and sudden bursts of speed. However, a heavy western saddle would slow the horse down, making it difficult to handle in the tight areas they would be working in. To make it easier to ride, western saddle makers developed the cutting saddle, made to be light-weight, more flexable and less cumbersome.

A numnah is a special type of saddle cloth. It is the same shape as the saddle, usually padded heavily around the edges and very thick. It is often made of wool or a similar material and is very thick and absorbent. It makes good cushioning for a saddle. They are often used under Australian pleasure or work saddles, which are a cross between the deep seat of a Western saddle and lightness and more fitted shape of an English saddle.
