Leprosy is caused by the bacteria Microbacterum leprae.A person needs to be genetically susceptible to the infection to contract leprosy. Over 90% of the human population is naturally resistant to this infection. Those that are infected, it is believed they acquired the disease by inhaling infected respiratory droplets spread from another infected person
Respiratory droplets.
no its only spread from person to person
It can spread and effect the other organs in your body.
Leprosy is hidden in airborne droplets that can spread when someone sneezes or coughs. It's a disease that damages the mucous membranes, skin and peripheral nerves.
Leprosy itself is just a disease. It is a contagious disease that can spread if not treated and controlled.
Leprosy is also known as Hansen's disease. This should not be confused with "The Moore's" which has similar symptoms but no deadly side effects; this disease has spread through women with whom Mr. Moore had been associated, not necessarily physically, but rather only socially.
It is caused by a bacteria (a rod-shaped bacillus) called Mycobacterium leprae and is spread by airborne droplets such as when someone coughs or sneezes. It appears possible that humans can contract the disease from armadillos as well.Leprosy (Hansen's disease) primarily attacks nerve cells, although the external skin lesions are the defining symptom. Besides humans, the other mammals that can contract leprosy are the chimpanzee, some monkey species, and the armadillo.
I do not have leprosy.
Some people are genetically resistant to leprosy, probably and no matter what, they do not get leprosy. Other with tuberculous type of leprosy have high resistance to leprosy. Those with lepromatous type of leprosy have least resistance to leprosy germs. The intermediate leprosy type have intermediate resistance to leprosy germs. Body reacts to leprosy by trying to kill the leprosy causing germs. There is an inflammatory response.
Lepers, or those infected with leprosy, were outcasts partly out of fear and partly out of necessity. Although rare, leprosy can be spread from person to person. Isolating lepers would thus prevent the vulnerable members of a population (as much as 5 percent) from contracting it. The fear element comes from both the physical appearance of lepers, and the fear of contracting leprosy.
Leprosy along with other diseases affected the poor population the most. But when they became sick they could easily spread it to the higher classes. Since the lower class worked as servants it was easy for them to give it to their masters.
