Best Answer

It has a cell wall to keep it rigid.

Lots of choroplasts for photosyntesis.

Is thin so gases like CO2 and oxygen can diffuse in and out easily.

Large surface area so more chloroplasts can be crammed in and also more is exposed to the light.

The guard cell has a thicker wall on one side than the other. When there is plenty of water, the guard cell inflates with water and becomes turgid. Because it cannot expand lengthways the same amount on both sides, due to the thicker wall, it bends sideways into a banana shape. This has the effect of opening the stoma, which is the little hole between the two guard cells. When water is scarce, the guard cell becomes limp again, closing the stoma and preserving water in the leaf
It has a long narrow tail

1. It has this special kidney shape which opens and closes in a leaf.

2. When the plant has too much water the guard cell fills up with it making it plump and turgid so the stomata opens and gases can be exchanged for photosynthesis, e.g. carbon dioxide.

3. When the plant doesn't have much water the stomata closes so water vapour cannot escape.

4. There are thick outer walls and thin inner walls which controls the opening and closing of the guard cell.

5. Guard cells are sensitive to light and close at night so they don't lose water as there isn't any photosynthesis happening.

Guard Cells are adapted by allowing gas exchange and controlling water loss all in a leaf.
