you will see a large brass nut with a plastic cover and electrical wire coming from it, normally at the top and to one side of the hot water cylinder, this is the immersion heater,

there are two common lengths, 27 inch and 11 inch.

Also, there are side entry immersion heaters.

Some cylinders have both top and side, the lower, side mounted being the main one and the top acting as a booster for the hot water . The old term of these mountings were, Sussex entry=top mounted, Essex entry= side mounted.

How does bladder tank on top of hot water heater operate?

Water expands when it is heated, this expansion increases the pressure. The bladder tank absorbs the extra pressure, protecting the hot water heater.

Why water is generally heated from the bottom?

Warm anything, air or water will rise. Cold water is put at the bottom of the tank through a tube inside the tank. The water is heated and rises and is taken out of the top. The inside of the heater is open, it is just a hollow tube. That is why the hot water gets slowly colder, more cold water is being mixed with the hot in the tank.

How long does a 100 pound propane tank last for a house for heat stove and hot water tank?

You can not answer that question without knowing more about the size of the hot water heater, the size of the stove and oven combo. How often the stove/oven is used, and how much hot water is heated. Water temp. is a factor as well.

How do you turn down the temp of your oil heated hot water?

It would depend on how the water was heated. Tankless Coil, there should be a valve on the side of the coil, that has a knob on top, that is your mixing valve and should be used to adjust water temp. Indirect Hot Water Tank, it is connected to boiler through piping, but does not have it's own burner...should have a box on it, (aquastat), that will adjust the temp of your hot water, likewise with a Direct Fired Hot Water Tank, which is the same as mentioned above, but with it's own oil burner.

Where is the copper coil in hot water heaters?

A water heater that is a tank does not have copper coils. If gas fired, there is a burner at the bottom that heats the water in the tank the same way a tea kettle is heated on the stove. An electric heater has two heating elements in the side, top and bottom that heat the water. A tankless water heater has a coil with a flame in the middle that heats the water. This type heats the water as you use it and for as long as you want. An indirectly heated tank has a heat exchange coiled tube (calorifier) mounted inside the skin of the tank. Hot water or steam travels through the tube and radiates heat into the tank water.

How does cold water turn to hot water?

Water steams up by the weather. water doesn't steam up and go hot in countries like Antarctica and other cold countries. Like with human bodies, in horrendous weather you are cold and in extremely hot weather you are warm. Basically: Water depends on the weather.
