It is a mechanical process. The sides of the tin are pressed into the bottom of the tin before it is filled, and then put on a conveyor belt. Huge vats with the food is suspended above the conveyor belt, and a measured bit of the food is dropped into the tin. After the tins are filled, the top is pressed on to the sides, and the whole thing is heated to melt the sealing material together.
Because of the process, the food inside the tin is sterile and already cooked by the heating process.
