The short answer is yes, but with caution. I wouldn't recommend taking Xanax at night along with the Ambien as the drugs will magnify the effects of each other resulting in increased side effects. If you take Xanax as needed during the day for anxiety and then take Ambien CR at night for sleep you should be fine. But trust me, if you take both at the same time you will have quite a nasty pill "hangover". Also, don't be afraid to ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns; that's why they're there. Emphasis is on taking the two at the same time and sometimes it is difficult to know when the Xanax is at a safe level to add another respiratory depressing agent such as Ambien or Lunesta. Heath Ledger thought he was taking safe amounts of the prescribed medications and had the worst outcome: accidental death. If your doctor prescribes both medications, then you will know when to take them, i.e. when to take the last Xanax before taking an Ambien CR. Yes, Ambien is a very fast acting drug, and it will completely be out of your body in approx. 4-5 hours. This is why some Ambien users report that they wake up in the middle of the night. Now here, A smart thing to do would be to take another Ambien, since it works and get eliminated from the body extremely fast. Taking Ambein and Ambien CR together if different.If you took an Ambien at the same time you took the Ambien CR, you would fall aslepp faster and more effectively, and the length of duration in rgards to the Ambien CR would jut be the same. Either way, it is safe. SO, DO THAT! and GET SOME GOOD REST!

is it safe for me to take both of these drugs as prescribed--both at bed time. The diazepam does make me drosey for approx 3 hours but wide awake after that. Have been taking the ambien cr later. Please advise me is they can both be taken at the same time

What do you mean you guess we'll test it?

You might not wake up! Are you kids? if so, where did you get these pills? I was prescribed ambein, and I took it onw night, and the next day I couldn't remember a thing. Never again will I ever take anything like that again. I have heard so many terrible things about this sleeping pill, but I was so tired from not sleep, that I went to my doctor. And I was taking xanax for anxiety, and the first thing he told me was NEVER to take xanax and ambein at the same time. Many people have done that and the interactions of the 2 drugs together killed them. Please, please don't take them unless you really need too. I know I can't expect you to listen to me. It's just that I have lost so many people to drug overdose. And I am not talking illegal drugs!

You can take them both at the same time as long as you're not taking a bunch of each. Since they're depressants it is possible to slow down your breathing enough to kill you, but you would have to take a lot to do that. I took .5mg of xanax and 20mg of ambien last night because I was having a lot of trouble sleeping and I was fine.

Absolutely NOT - you never take more than one tranquilizer together! You could kill yourself by doing that.
