Not too long, unless refrigerated or in a container. Frosting will mold quickly. I would suggest refrigerating or keeping it in a box.

If it was opened but kept in the refrigerator except for in use it should be still good a coulee years after the expiration date...

If it's only been a few weeks since the expiration date, then it will be fine to use. But if it's longer than a month, then throw it out.
