Approximately one and a half days, from the Friday afternoon until the early hours of Sunday morning. In Jewish inclusive reckoning, this was three days.

In Jewish reckoning, even part of a day was regarded as a 'day'. Thus the remainder of the Friday of the crucifixion after Jesus' death was counted as the first day, the whole of Satuday was the second day, and the first few hours of the Sunday morning when the empty tomb was discovered and Jesus appeared to Mary and the others, the day of resurrection, was the third day. Hence the expressions used by Jesus - 'I will rise again in three days' and 'I will destroy the Temple, and in three daysrebuild it...' amongst many others foretelling his resurrection.

Another Answer:

The Quran says in Surah Annisa 4:157

That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah.";- But they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:-

The wonder of Jonah pbuh:

- When he was thrown overboard, was he alive or dead?

- When the fish ate him, was he (in the fish) during those 3 days and 3 nights alive or dead?

- When the fish spew him on the beach, was he alive or dead?

answer: It was a miracle, he should be dead, but he was alive in all the 3 cases.

But when we ask a Christian, was Jesus as alive or dead during those 3 days and 3 nights? The answer is then: Dead

The wonder of Jonah pbuh was, that he was eaten by a fish and survived, the wonder of Jesus pbuh was that he was buried in the earth and came back to live, . Jesus pbuh did not survive the grave, because he was already dead. So coming back to live is not the same as being all the time alive.

The third thing i want to discuss: How long did Jesus pbuh stayed in the state of "dead"?

Mark 15:34 and Mathew 27:46 say both that he pbuh died on: 9 o'clock in the evening on a Friday.

Mark 16:2 and Mathew 28:1 say both that He pbuhrised back to live before (the sun came up) Sunday-morning (after the sabbath).

So let's count :

Friday night , Saturday night = 2 nights

Saturday = 1 day.

1 day and 2 nights dead..... this is not the same as 3 days and 3 nights (even it we count it like the Jews).

The Jews counted the day from the arrising of the sun, and we see that Jesus pbuh was arrised before the sun came up, so we cannot count Sunday.

so, you answer yourselve where he was during those so called "3 days and 3 nights" and you decide yourselve wether he has fullfiled the wonder of Jonah pbuh

The Holy Bible says that Jesus died on Good Friday, the day of his crucifixtion. After he carried the cross to where his death site would be, he was nailed to the cross. After seeral hours, Jesus Christ had died. He was taken down by Mary Magdalen and his body was laid in a nearby tomb (present day known as Garden Tomb). He remained in the tomb until Easter Sunday, when Mary Magdalen saw that he was gone, she ran to tell Simon-Peter, and another apostle. They all ran to the tomb, thinking that the body had been stolen, they eventually figured out that our Lord, Savior, and Mesiah, Jesus Christ had risen from the dead to save us all! The Bible says that he buried for 3 days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

The story of Jesus appearing to others after his crucifixion and resurrection differs from source to source:

Mark's Gospel

Mark's Gospel was the earliest gospel record and should therefore be the most accurate account. However, in its original form, it finished at verse 16:8, when the young man told the women that Jesus was risen, and they fled in terror telling no one. Jesus did not appear to anyone after his crucifixion and resurrection.

The 'Long Ending' (there was also, at one stage, a 'Short Ending') was added much later to add the necessary resurrection appearances. Here Jesus appeared first to Mary Magdalene, then to two of them, then to the eleven at a meal and was then taken up into heaven. Although we are not told just when Jesus appeared to the disciples at a meal, this second-century addition appears to be largely based on Luke's ending, in which Jesus was taken up into heaven on the evening of his resurrection.

Matthew's Gospel

Matthew's Gospel says that Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene and the other Mary as they returned from the tomb, then to the eleven disciples at a mountain in Galilee, where he gave a parting speech. We are not told how long after the resurrection this meeting took place, but it would have taken a few days for everyone to travel to Galilee.

Luke's Gospel

Luke's Gospel says that Jesus first appeared to the two men on the road to Emmaeus and then to the eleven at a meal, before taking them out towards Bethany, where he was taken up bodily to heaven on the evening of the same day as his resurrection.

John's Gospel

John's Gospel says that Jesus first appeared to Mary Magdalene at the tomb, when she thought he was the gardener. He appeared to ten of the disciples at a meal on the evening of his resurection and then to all eleven disciples at a meal eight days later, then in Galilee. As with Matthew's Gospel, it would have taken a few days for everyone to travel to Galilee, although in thisgospel the meeting was on Lake Galilee.

Acts of the Apostles

In this account, the ascension was moved forward to coincide with the Jewish day of the Pentecost, forty days after Easter, during which time he was seen by many.

Paul

1 Corinthians 15:3-8, which actually pre-dates Mark's Gospel, it appears as if the resurrection and the ascension to heaven may have been the same event, as also seems to be the case in the original version of Mark's Gospel. Paul says that Jesus was seen first by Cephas (Peter), then the twelve, then by more than 500, most of whom were still alive, then by James and all the apostles, and finally by himself. However, Paul implied that the appearances were all of the same spiritual nature and no more real than the spiritual appearance he experienced. If so, this confirms that, for Paul, Jesus was not resurrected to appear on earth.

How many days before anyone could touch Jesus after his resurrection?

A:This depends on the passage being read:In Matthew 28:9, the women touch Jesus, holding him by the feet, on the morning of his resurrection. Jesus allowed them to worship him thus.In John 20:17, Jesus says to Mary Magdalene, "Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended ..." In this gospel, not only could Mary not touch Jesus, but no one could before he rose to heaven.Eight days later, still in John's Gospel at verse 20:27, Jesus forgets his earlier concern and tells Thomas to touch his wounds.

What time period does the gospel of Matthew cover?

The book of Matthew starts with the birth of Jesus which occurred around 4-5 BC and the last chapter finishes with Jesus' last words before being taken up in the air and returning to heaven.
