It took at least several years to plan out all of the various details of Operation Overlord, the largest amphibious landing in world history. Over 160,000 Allied soldiers were committed to hit the beaches that day; by the end of August, over three million troops would be in France.
In 1942, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill unofficially referenced a lack of resources necessary to succeed with such a large undertaking. There was a proposal for an autumn of 1942 seizure of French ports, called Operation Sledgehammer. There was also Operation Roundup, a plan put forth for an invasion of northern France in the spring of 1943, which was delayed, expanded, and changed into Operation Overlord, utilizing aspects of Operation Sledgehammer and Operation Roundhammer.

Normandy Beach was divided up into five or six different landing sites. The longest one to take was Omaha Beach. It took them 9 hours and many casualties occurred during those hours. The other beaches the Americans landed on were easier and quick to capture. The Brits fared better with their landings.
There were 5 different beaches that were attacked sepately. Some managed to break through very soon after landing the beach was right next to a town. The American beach took 5 or 6 hours to break out.
Tuesday, June 6, 1944 (D-Day), began at 6:30 AM (British Double Summer Time (GMT+2)) with Allied troops landing on the beaches of Normandy. This lasted until August 19, 1944, where Allied troops started to cross the River Seine.

The Allied forces which landed on the Normandy beaches did not actually fight in the capture of Berlin, which was a Russian battle. After landing on the European mainland the drive to Berlin took less than a year.
They were going to take place in Normandy on the 5th of June 1944 but got posponed until the 6th of June 1944.

The window curtains in passenger airplanes have to be off during take-off and landing so the flight attendants can see outside and check if there are any problems.

It is like any other jet aircraft. So it needs the same space for landing. The landing strip should be atleast 1-2 km long.
