Do the male or female grizzly bear take care of the children?

Cubs are usually born in January or February while the mother is in hibernation. Cubs are nursed through out this time. The cubs are weened in late summer and stay with their mother until the next summer when they are mature enough to live on their own. While the cubs are with their mother, she teaches them what to eat, where to look for shelter and what dangers to watch out for. If the mother senses danger she will grunt and the cubs will run up the nearest tree until she signals them to come down again. The mother is extremely protective and often very aggressive. The fathers play no role in the raising or caring for the young.
