Only help a cow if there seems to be no progression after an hour or two, OR if you notice that there is no feet coming out of the canal, only one foot is coming, no feet are coming, or the feet appear to be coming in upside-down. Breach and backward calves are the most dire emergencies because that calf needs air and will die if you don't get him out soon.
