You need to try another magazine assembley.
The Remington Model 740 is a magazine fed rifle. The magazine is removed by pushing on the small lever which is on the bottom of the magazine and pulling the magazine straight down. Four rounds of ammunition are loaded into the magazine and the magazine replaced in the rifle. Pull the forearm of the rifle back and push it forward to chamber a round. Beware: The 30-06 round packs considerable punch when fired in such a light rifle. Recoil should be seriously considered.
None of them say. 22 short, long, or long rifle round barrel 12-A octagon barrel 12-C 22 short (octagon) 12-B 22 Remington Special (octagon) 12-CS
With the bolt open and locked, remove the magazine nut and slide the barrel and forend off the shotgun. Replace the nut on the magazine tube (you'll see why in a minute). If you look towards the end of the magazine tube (toward muzzle), you will see a round notch in it. Gently let the bolt move forward until the peg in the slide aligns with the round notch, and lift up carefully. When the slide releases from the piston, the piston will slide forward until it hits the magazine nut. You may now remove the magazine nut and slide the piston and magazine spring from the shotgun. Replace the piston and reassemble in reverse sequence.
I can give you a more accurate value if you will provide the serial number(to determine the year of manufacture). I will also need to know if your rifle has any special features such as a takedown model,A button magazine(half magazine),special wood, pistol grip buttstock, round barrel or half round half octagon,or full octagon barrel etc.
This firearm was introduced in 1909 & discontinued in 1936. (12A) is 22 S, L, LR with a 22" round barrel, using a single magazine band & had a straight grip on the buttstock.Sorry I haven't been able to track down the exact date as of yet but still trying.
A Remington Model 760 magazine "CAN" be used in the Model 742 Remington if they are the same caliber. The 742 rifle is designed to hold the bolt back after the last round is fired. Along the left side of the 742 magazine there is a bolt release button that will allow the bolt to move forward after a full mag. replaces the empty one. The 760 mag. has the same magazine body but does not have the bolt release button so the bolt will not move forward until the mag. is removed.
No.
The round arch and barrel valult are similar in shape. The barrel vault is an extension of the round arches which form the vault or roof of a structure.
Sorry, but we need more information on the term "round barrel gun".
If there are a model 12 (Octagon 12-C, Round probably a 12-A) 1917, 1911 If the are a model 121 the will be date code stamped on the barrel. That can be checked on the Remington Society of America here: http://remingtonsociety.com/rsa/questions/barrelcodes
Value is based on make, model and condition. You gave us 1 of the 3 bits of information we need. Sorry, impossible to answer.
