∙ 16y agoI am sure this will vary from person to person depending on hygiene and the gauge of the piercing. Personally, mine was swollen for around three days. Make sure you follow ALL of the cleaning recommendations of your piercer in order to prevent infection and reduce the swelling time.

∙ 13y agoBe lucky it hasn't yet, haha. Usually after the first night. When you wake up your tongue will be huge. It sucks, but suck on lots of ice and taking Tylenol every 4-6 hours helps tons. Good luck. Swelling should be gone in about a week.

∙ 11y agoIt takes about two hours at the most for the swelling to go down. After you have taken out your piercing, your tongue will feel better straight away!Remember to rinse your mouth with a good mouth wash to prevent any further infection. It takes about two hours for the hole to close up completely.

∙ 14y agoTypically swelling will take up to two weeks to ease off, a little each day. Stay on top of your aftercare and the cold stuff for swelling and you should notice a difference in the next few days. After two weeks it's a good idea to see your piercer, have him/her check to see if you are due for a step down barbell. If so get it done and then stay on your aftercare. It will take a full 6 to 8 weeks for the piercing to settle down to an almost prepiercing condition.

No. The ear piercing gun and stud are designed to be used on earlobes only. The tongue is a complex group of two major muscles joined by connective tissue and convered by over 10,000 tastebuds and pain receptors. Tongue piercing is intended to go between the muscle groups at least* (*at minimum) to a depth of 3/4 of an inch from the tip of the tongue. The ear piercing gun will not have the reach nor will the studs be long enough to allow for the swelling the will take place after the piercing is done.

Well actually that's not a good thing, the barbell was too short for the piercing to allow for swelling, the expansion of the piercing hole is and indication of some sensitivity to the metal or the aftercare product you are using. Consider seeing your piercer tomorrow to have them take a look.
