Most Ph.D programs in psychology take at least 4 years, but most take 5 (at least in regards to Clinical and Counseling programs). It is good to try to find a school that offers the option of earning a Masters while working toward your Ph.D. so that if you can't make it the full five years, you don't come out empty handed. It is also important to remember to choose a good school that you will stay at for the full five years because you can't transfer grad schools. If you leave a program at School A you have to start from scratch at School B.
