Thorny devil babies do not stay with their parents at all. Thorny devils lay their eggs in chambers in a burrow which is about 30cm deep. After this, they have no further parental involvement. Once the young thorny devils hatch, they are able to begin eating ants immediately.

The incubation period of thorny devils varies with the temperature of the burrow in which the eggs are laid. In cooler areas, the young develop in the eggs for about 18 weeks before they hatch. In warmer areas, this may be reduced to around 13 weeks.

The thorny devil is an egg-laying reptile, so it does not have a "pregnancy". Once the eggs are laid, they take a minimum of three months to hatch, sometimes extending to four months in cooler conditions.

How long before baby quails leave parents?

No, the parents teach their babies to forage and they stay together. Quail live in large groups together and then break apart in family groups to forage. So, there isn't quite the kicking-out-of-the-nest moment like with some birds. For ten years generation after generation of quail have lived in my yard. So, some of the babies never leave.
