The Aztecs (Mexicans) started celebrating the Day of the Dead, also known as Dia de Los Muertos, over thousands of years ago. The Spaniards discovered the Aztecs. Also the ritual use to last a month, now however, the ritual only goes on for two day. The first day (November 1st) being All Saints' Day and the second day (November 2nd) being All Souls' Day.
