Chicken eggs take 21 days from start of brood to hatch. Start of brood does not mean the day it is laid, the hen will not usually sit on the eggs until she has a clutch of eggs. the broody hens body temperature and humidity gets the process going.

Incubation in an incubator artificially supplies the same conditions and starts the day you set the eggs. 21 days with some allowance for slow emergent chicks is normal.
