This depends on how many dead cells there are in your battery. If most of them are dead, and only two are good, not long. Did you know that you can re-fill your batteries cells, even a maintenance free battery? All you need is distilled water and some battery acid, which is usually available at the auto parts store. Look carefully into the side of your battery to determine how low the level is, and add accordingly. I use a half acid, half distilled water mix. Use a hydrometer to test strength (available at most parts stores) and use a rubber ball siphon to move the acid mix from it's container to the battery.

How do you recharge the battery on a hybrid vehicle?

Unless it is a plug-in hybrid the only way is to drive the vehicle.

How do you recharge a battery in 1993 Chevy lumina?

The simplest way to recharge a GOOD battery is to simply jump start and drive the vehicle for twenty to thirty minutes. The above answer is not a good idea if the battery was so weak it will not start the engine. You may damage the alternator by using it to charge a dead battery. You should charge the battery with a battery charger. That is the safest way.

What are the demerits of using battery in vehicle?

If a battery is used within a car you can only drive for a certain amount of hours before having to recharge the car. e.g the smart car is powerd by a battery.

Does driving the car also charge the battery if its dead?

Yes, once you have jump started the car (from another car's battery), driving the car will recharge the dead battery (provided the battery is OK). This is a terrible idea and may damage the alternator. Drive the car immediately home and charge the battery with a battery charger. Alternators are designed to keep a charged battery fully charged. They are not designed to charge a dead battery. This puts way too much strain on the alternator circuits.

When a battery is discharged does this reset the cars computer when recharged?

When you recharge the battery and start the automobile the computer will set itself back to (ROM) read only memores. SOMETIMES you do need to drive a few miles for the computer can relearn itself.

Do you have to drive the car around after jump starting a dead battery or can you just keep the engine running?

Recharging/Topping Off of an Auto Battery after Jump StartingIt is not absolutely necessary to drive the vehicle for the battery to recharge, BUT...If you allow the vehicle to stand idling for a long period of time without moving, you run the possible risk of the engine and cooling system overheating, which could damage the engine. Therefore it is suggested that the vehicle be driven for a few miles to recharge the battery, OR stay with the vehicle while it is stopped/idling, and monitor/watch the engine/coolant temperature gauge and/or idiot light.IF the gauge approaches full hot, or the hot coolant warning light comes on, then either take the vehicle out for a drive to cool it down, OR turn the engine OFF.

How long do you have to drive around to charge a car battery after jump starting a car?

You should never drive a car around for long after jump starting a dead battery. This puts an enormous strain on the alternator. Alternators are designed to keep a good battery charged, not to charge a dead battery. You can easily burn out a diode in the alternator. Jump start the engine and drive it somewhere and connect a battery charger to the battery and charge it fully.

2005 Mini Cooper key will not lock doors?

All keys must be recharged every six months or more often. Drive each key (daily and spares) around town for a few hours to recharge the rechargable battery inside each ; and, try again.

Jump started your car and drove around several minutes. While driving your radio was flashing on and off and ABS light stayed on When you parked and turned off car the battery was completely dead agai?

your alternator is bad even if you charge your battery it could still die because the battery is being wasted while you drive

How long do you need to keep booster cables on until battery is charged?

As long as you are running the car you can take them off immediately after the car has started. The alternator in the engine will then charge the battery as you drive, the motor being on. Drive it around the block a few times, or for 10-20 minutes and you should be good, unless it's really cold where you live then drive it a while longer. If this is a perpetual problem you may need a new battery, I always go to 'autozone', they will check the battery, while in the car, for free as well as the alternator output. They even put a new battery in for me, for free, after I had purchased it of course.

My Lexus es300 wouldn't start and I had it jumped started and started to drive away but then all of the electrical went out and the car just stopped running and I am wondering what is wrong?

I had the same thing happen. The battery cable came off the battery in my case, loose connection.

How do you charge a car battery?

A car battery should not be "cycled" as in fully discharged and then recharged. Such a cycling would quickly destroy this kind of battery. A car battery is discharged slightly when you start your car, then it is recharged again when you drive your car. Proper charging whilst running car engine is good for the battery. A normal car-battery (Lead-acid) can last for many years if not "cycled". Never discharge battery more than 50%. How often you actually need to recharge your battery depends on how it is used.
