Korea, in modern times, did not exist as an independent country., Between l920 and the end of World War II it was for all intents and purposes a Japanese colony, and Japanese currency, etc was used ( this differed from other Japanese pupper states which had some facade, even including national insignia and awards- of national status, for example Manchuko, in Manchuria. Korea split on the 38Th Paralell and the northern part was, and is Communist. This North-South conflict spawned the Korean War, entered into by President Truman, and like a later Asian conflilct, essentially a mixed battle. The US withdrew in l952-53. Nobody really (Won)
